Running Gear
Skin Protection: Wear sunscreen everywhere on your body that is exposed. At least SPF 30, and the sport kinds that are water/sweat-proof are ideal. Especially remember to protect your face, ears, and neck!
Shoes:
Running shoes are the most important piece of gear for a cross country runner. Because everyone's different, not every shoe will work for every runner. Simply picking up a comfortable pair of shoes from a sporting goods store isn't good enough. The wrong type of shoe can lead to injury. Many factors are involved in finding that right shoe, and a running specialty store such as Heart and Sole Sports can help you find a shoe that will make you run happy. High school athletes receive a 10% discount on all products.
Socks: Bad socks are one of the most common causes of blisters. Running socks should be made of technical, moisture-wicking fabric. NOT COTTON. Cotton collects moisture and wraps the foot in its own sweat, leading to bacterial growth and possible blistering. Give running socks a try and you'll ask yourself why you ever ran in cotton.
Clothing: The same rules apply as with socks; all clothing should be made of technical moisture-wicking fabric. For warmer runs, a t-shirt and shorts (or just shorts for some), will suffice. Girls need to wear sports bras that are supportive and comfortable. Chaffing problems can be solved by using products such as Body Glide. For colder runs, running gloves, tights, jackets, beanies, and arm warmers are your friends. Dressing in layers is always important, because you have the flexibility to shed clothing as you warm up during your run. Always expect the unexpected when it comes to race day weather, don't get caught unprepared.
Racing: For runners who wish to get the fastest race times possible, xc flats are the way to go. They're the equivalent of spikes in track- lightweight shoes that let you fly through the course. Buy flats as early as possible, before the season even starts. Once the season gets going the flats sell out quickly and don't get restocked.

Plenty of free parking just 50’ away on the corner of 5th and Brookwood. During the school year, I work here every Sunday and most Saturdays. My summer hours are more random, but if you ask me I'll let you know when I'm working.
